Marrakech: the classic Moroccan balloon flight
Most hot air balloon rides in Morocco take place around Marrakech, and so do most of ours. We pick you up from your hotel or riad, you have tea and coffee at our base near Bourrous, your pilot briefs you, and you take off as the sun comes up over the countryside. After 45 to 60 minutes in the air you land in an open field and come back for breakfast at your own table. Your Marrakech morning, step by step.

Balloon flights in the south of Morocco
The road from Marrakech to the Sahara crosses some of the most beautiful valleys in the country. On selected dates, our pilots fly there too. These flights are not daily: the balloon, the crew and the vehicles travel from Marrakech, and we fly when the date, the weather and the local arrangements line up. That is why they are planned in advance: €250 per person in Tinghir and the Roses Valley, and on request for Merzouga.
- Tinghir and the Todra valley: one of the great palm groves of the south, close to the Todra Gorge.
- The Roses Valley: the valley of the M'Goun river around Kelaat M'Gouna, famous for its roses.
- Merzouga: the high dunes of Erg Chebbi, only on request, because every flight needs a special permission.
The same rules everywhere
- Sunrise only. We never fly in the evening heat.
- The pilot decides on the morning. If the wind is not right, nobody flies.
- A briefing before the balloon is prepared, so you can ask every question.
- Licensed pilots and balloons with a Moroccan registration.
Hot air balloon rides in Morocco: questions
Where can you do a hot air balloon ride in Morocco?
Marrakech is where balloons fly most mornings, all year. We also fly on selected dates in the south: in Tinghir and the Todra valley, in the Roses Valley near Kelaat M'Gouna, and on request over the Merzouga dunes in the Sahara.
Which is the best place for a hot air balloon ride in Morocco?
For most travellers, Marrakech: we fly there every morning the weather allows, with hotel pickup and breakfast. If you are travelling through the south, a flight over the Todra palm grove, the Roses Valley or the Merzouga dunes is a rare experience to plan in advance.
Can I fly in a hot air balloon over the Sahara in Morocco?
Yes, over the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, on request only. Each flight there needs a special permission, so contact us as early as you can with your dates.
How much does a hot air balloon ride in Morocco cost?
In Marrakech our prices are fixed: classic flight €165 per person, private balloon €330 per person, VIP flight €620 per person. A flight in Tinghir or the Roses Valley is €250 per person. Merzouga is priced on request, because each flight there needs a special permission.
Do hot air balloons fly at sunset in Morocco?
We fly only at sunrise, everywhere in Morocco. The cool morning air is calm; after a hot day the air is turbulent, and that is not safe for a balloon.
Is hot air ballooning in Morocco safe and regulated?
Civil aviation in Morocco is supervised by the DGAC, and every balloon carries a Moroccan registration starting with CN-. We are a licensed company, our pilots are licensed, and if the weather is not safe we don't fly.
